DCA celebrates the Lantern Festival in partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise
The team at DC Alliance celebrated our second annual Lantern Festival on February 15, marking the 15th day of the first month of the Lunar calendar and the end of New Year’s celebrations. We celebrate in recognition of our Singaporean ownership and the position we intend to hold in the APAC region; we see this as a wonderful opportunity to honour our company’s heritage, bringing the tradition of generosity and sharing as part of the Lunar New Year.
The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar, during the full moon. The holiday marks the first full moon of the Lunar New Year. During the festival, houses are festooned with colourful lanterns, often with riddles on them. If the riddle is answered correctly, the solver earns a small gift.
This year we had the privilege of hosting this event in partnership with our good friends at Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HPE). We are thrilled to finally welcome Alletra 9000 into our Data-Centre Intelligent, Cloud Managed Storage.
The team at DC Alliance were busy leading up to the Lantern Festival. The week before Albert and the crew brewed their own beer and created a keg system which was enjoyed on the night. Tuesday morning Montana, Renee, Madeleine, Urusha and Natalie set up the event décor for the night. A big thank you to the team at Pearman’s Electrical Services for once again installing the festoon lighting at the venue as well as the lanterns.
Catering was taken care of by Jumplings Tasty Dumplings. Guests enjoyed their Jumplings served bowl style with the options of chicken and duck, or vegetarian served with udon noodles, cabbage, coriander, topped with homemade chilli and mayo. Dinner was closely followed by Lunar New Year themed sugar cookies from Sugar Rush by Steph and authentic Kuih, a bite-sized colourful dessert with rice flour, from The Layers.
DC Alliance has once again chosen to raise funds for the Autism Academy for Software Quality Assurance (AASQA). AASQA is an Australian social innovation initiative with the vision of harnessing the special talents of people with autism for the collective benefit of those with Autism, the ICT industry and the wider community.
AASQA provides the development of programs targeting outreach of high school students, training and education support in the ICT discipline areas and creation of work experience opportunities through internships. Professor Tele Tan, Director of AASQA, highlighted the importance of the involvement of the ICT community in Western Australia with providing work experience opportunities in high school students with autism.
Speeches were closely followed by a dragon dance by Yaolin Kung Fu Association. The dance consisted of a team of nine people carrying the dragon poles accompanied with traditional drums and cymbal gongs. Chinese dragons are a symbol of China’s culture and are believed to bring good luck. Thank you to everyone who joined us at our second annual Lantern Festival, and congratulations to our riddle winners!
