DC Alliance at the ACS Annual Dennis Moore Oration and 1962 Awards Presentation
The DC Alliance team headed to 18 Knots Rooftop Bar on a Wednesday afternoon for canapes and drinks put on by HPE as part of their HPE complete program.
We had a great time socializing and learning about HPE’s complete program which enables the purchase of best-in-class third-party branded products with the added reliability of HPE’s interoperability testing and customised integration tools.
The 360-degree view of the city from the rooftop was stunning.

Later that same afternoon, DC Alliance had the privilege of sponsoring the ACS Annual Dennis Moore Oration and 1962 Awards Presentation night at the State Library of Western Australia.
Professor Dennis Moore installed the first stored-program digital computer (IBM1620) in Western Australia back in 1962. The computer was set up in the physics building and was also the university’s only air-conditioned room. The IBM1620 could store up to 60,000 numbers, read 250 cards and punch 10,000 digits each time.

This is the 10th year of the 1962 awards and is for the top individual university undergraduate student in WA.
DC Alliance would like to say a big congratulations to Alistair Martin who won the 1962 prize and congratulations to Dr Naeha Sharif who won the 1962 medal.
The 1962 medal was introduced in 2019 to recognise outstanding newly completed Doctoral research in the field of information technology and computer science in WA.

We were delighted with a distinguished oration on ‘Data Analytics for Smart City Transportation’ by Associate Professor Diona Olaru. She received her PhD in 2000 from the University of Bucharest in Romania, on Transport modelling focusing particularly on travel demand estimation. Doina is part of an active multi-disciplinary research group at UWA and her research covers a broad range of topics, including accessibility, socio-economic and environmental effects of transport, activity, and time-use. Doina is also the head of Management and Organisation department in the University of Western Australia Business School and Associate of the Centre for Business Data Analytics.
After the awards and oration we proceeded to the lobby for drinks, canapes and networking.
